Holistic Approach to Address
Migration of Women

Since 2020, the Centre has been implementing a programme for potential and returnee women migrants. For potential migrants and their family members, awareness raising and door-to-door campaigns for safe migration of women is one of the preventive effort to reduce irregular migration and trafficking in women.

On their return from abroad, women are traumatized and face social stigmatization both within the families and their communities. We therefore advocated for psychosocial support packages for returnee women migrants along with their family members and community people so that they are acceptable and not blamed on their return.

Returnee women migrants who had been victims of exploitation abroad and have come empty handed were identified to form groups so that they can be leaders to voice their demands in their communities. They are empowered to participate in family decision-making process and community level activities.

At the same time, returnee women received skill development training, especially on entrepreneurship to develop their small scale business enterprises and sewing training for making face masks in exchange of daily wages. In the whole process, returnee women migrants are economically reintegrated both in their families and communities.

In addition, we tried to advocate for bridging a relationship with the local government bodies as they are the duty bearers who can deliver the messages of safe migration at the grassroots level. Moreover, the Union Digital Centre (UDC) can provide relevant information of safe and regular migration to women who are intending to migrate abroad; whom to approach for going abroad; information regarding work environment; contact addresses of Bangladesh embassies at destination countries; government services available on their return etc.
